Most of the new tenants on Hero Way this year are places people go back to over and over, or places where they stay for hours. They include a coffee bar, a large gym, a liquor and fine-foods store, a beauty lounge, a board-game cafe and a sit-down bar and restaurant. What Hero Way has added in 2026 is built for a daily habit or a full evening. The two biggest projects on the drawing board, a Life Time club and a hotel paired with a trampoline park, are the same kind of business on a larger scale.
The road itself is splitting in two. The commercial stretch keeps filling in, and the section east of 183A Toll stays an active Williamson County work zone into 2028. Knowing where each of those sits makes it easier to plan a week around the road.
The Building at 1060 Hero Way
The clearest example sits near the corner of Hero Way and US 183. Black Rock Coffee Bar opened at 1060 Hero Way on Oct. 19, according to Community Impact, which reported that it is the company's 11th Central Texas location.
The same address holds Crunch Fitness at Building 4. In June, Community Impact described the club as a 45,000-square-foot, $11 million build, Crunch's 12th location in greater Austin. Crunch's chief brand officer told the outlet the club would have contrast therapy with an infrared sauna and a frost locker, plus hot yoga, hydromassage, reformer pilates, a functional training space called the "Hiitzone," and a kids zone where parents can leave children while they work out. Crunch's Leander location page lists 24/7 hours. Base memberships start at $9.99 a month on an annual commitment, or $15.99 without one, and the Peak Results tier is $29.99.
A third tenant is coming to this address. Wingstop has a $300,000 tenant improvement registered with the state at 1060 Hero Way, Suite 220. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing lists a construction start of Nov. 28, 2026, and completion in March 2027.
Taken together, the building covers a morning coffee, a workout and a takeout dinner. A Leander resident with a regular schedule can hit all three in one trip.
Farther Along Hero Way, the Evening Tenants
The pattern continues up the road. Spec's opened its first Leander store at 1481 Hero Way with a grand opening on Aug. 22, Community Impact reported. Spec's carries wine, spirits and finer foods, which makes it a stop for stocking up before a holiday gathering.
At 1561 Hero Way, in the Shops at Hero Way, two tenants are aimed squarely at the evening. Wren's Landing, a board-game cafe and bar, is planned for Suite 120 with a December 2026 opening target. Two doors down, a state filing covers a 6,500-square-foot bar-and-restaurant finish-out in Suite 150 of the same center. The TDLR registration lists a construction window of Sept. 15 to Nov. 1, 2026.
A game cafe and a full bar and restaurant in one center gives the strip places built for staying after dark.

Hero Way West Adds Appointments, Then a Second Big Gym
West of US 183, where the road is signed Hero Way West, the newest tenants are businesses with standing appointments. Vanta Beauty Lounge opened Aug. 21 at 11620 Hero Way W., Building 230, Suite 38, offering hairstyling. Fort Ink, a paramedical tattooing studio, opened in early September at the same address in Suite 9, inside Salons by JC.
The biggest project on this end follows the same idea. On July 2, the Leander City Council approved a planned unit development for Life Time on a 14-acre site at 11675 Hero Way West. The city council agenda puts the site south of Hero Way West, about 1,600 feet east of N. Bagdad Road. Community Impact's council coverage described a proposed 100,000-square-foot fitness center with a 45,000-square-foot pool deck. The approval is a zoning decision. No construction start or opening date has been set.
That puts two large fitness operators on Hero Way, with Life Time's planned building more than twice the size of Crunch's. Crunch's 45,000-square-foot building at US 183 is the same size as the pool deck alone in Life Time's plan.
East of 183A, the Road Itself Is Under Construction
The eastern stretch is where Hero Way becomes RM 2243 and heads toward Georgetown, and it looks very different right now. Williamson County is building the first phase of a project that will turn the old rural two-lane road into a divided, controlled-access highway, with two main lanes in each direction and two three-lane frontage roads, from 183A Toll to Southwest Bypass. Phase 1A, a $132 million frontage road running 3.5 miles from 183A to Garey Park, broke ground on Jan. 29.
The schedule has slipped a little since then. The county's Sept. 11 road bond progress report lists Phase 1A, built by Chasco Constructors, finishing in summer 2028. In that report, crews were working on embankment between CR 269 and CR 270, culvert headwalls, subgrade preparation and Retaining Wall 2, and a subcontractor was pouring signal foundations at the Ronald Reagan Boulevard intersection. Anyone driving to Garey Park from Leander goes straight through that work zone.
Some of the work is already in use. In July, Leander approved a $329,352.63 interlocal agreement with the county to build part of the future roadway near Harmony Science Academy. Temporary pavement and turn bays, with a new temporary signal, were meant to move school traffic off Hero Way. Gina Ellison, Leander's executive director of public works, told Community Impact the temporary pavement will be removed when the expansion reaches three lanes in each direction, a switch expected in 2028.
What the Wider Road Is Being Built to Carry
The private plans for this eastern stretch look like the commercial strip, only larger. ARS Developers plans a 21-acre mixed-use project off Hero Way south of CR 270, according to Community Impact. The plan includes a four-story, 123-room major-flag hotel with a one-story lodge, a Big Air trampoline and adventure park of more than 32,000 square feet next to a sports bar of nearly 13,000 square feet, an event center connected to an outdoor lawn, more than 45,000 square feet of retail, a warehouse and a dog park. Co-owner Prasad Kolishetti gave the outlet an estimated finish of late 2027 or early 2028 for the hotel, Big Air and the event center.
That target falls right around the end of the frontage road work. A trampoline park, a sports bar and an event lawn are places families plan a whole afternoon around, and the same is true of Crunch, Wren's Landing and the planned Life Time pool deck to the west.
